Experimenting With Momigami: The Art of Japanese Kneaded Paper

Date: Saturday, April 18

Time:     Extended Hours    9am-5pm

Location: Suntan Art Center 411 19th St. S. St. Petersburg

Cost: $145

Taught by Deb Campbell, Jakki Garlans and Leeann Kroetsch

Part I: Foundation and Experiments

The first part of the workshop will begin with basic instructions for making the papers and the pros and cons of each method.  Members will use various techniques then embellish with paint if desired.  This will be a morning of experimenting so, even though we will have plenty of magazines for you, feel free to bring tissue paper, gift wrap, newspaper or other favorite sheets.  NOTE: the thicker the paper, the more difficult or time consuming to knead it.  You can also prepare some papers if you wish to paint them at home to experiment with hand coloring.

After experimenting with various techniques, Jakki will help you put together samples into your own technique journal.

Part 2: Creating Individual Projects

Following our morning experiments, everyone is encouraged to bring in their own substrate for a Momigami project for the second part of the workshop.  Such projects may include Momigami paper collage on canvas or other special backgrounds, or covering a unique box,  creating a journal cover, a cigar box jewelry box or purse or trying to sew the papers.  The sky is the limit.  NOTE: Due to time and number of individual projects, attaching a handle for a purse must be finished at home.

For those who would like an unusual box, Debra will have cigar boxes for purchase that can be turned into a jewelry box or handbag.  You may have time to do more than one project.

Please email Debra in advance of the workshop if you wish to purchase a cigar box for $5.     dcampthree@gmail.com
