FABRICating Art–the Wonders of Collage: with June Colburn
Date of Workshop: February 7, 2026
Time of Workshop: 10:00-4:00
Location: King of Peace Church
Description:
Unleash your inner Rembrandt, Monet or Picasso as you develop your artistic eye and creative spirit! Explore new ways to look at fabric. Learn how to choose the best ones for collage, to “fussy” cut prints and batiks, and to layer them effectively–in effect, to design a new textile! Using a few tips, experiment with asymmetry, even if your natural style is symmetric. Turn your design into a bag, wearable art garment, wall quilt or framed art. The trunk show is filled with ideas. Suitable for all skill levels. No worries, come and have fun!
Number of participants: Minimum 10 Maximum 18
Member Fee $65
Non-Member Fee TBD
Optional supply kits available on request for $20. Fabric for an 18” x 22” design; please specify theme color by emailing June at: june@junecolburn.com
Materials Students are Expected to Bring:
Muslin or other base fabric cut to size of finished piece plus 2” ea. side
For a jacket, pre-cut muslin to your size, mark bust points. Do not sew the shoulder or side seams together or add sleeves. You will be designing the pieces flat, to be sewn together later.
8-10 color-coordinated dense prints in small, medium & large/bold sizes, to total at least 1½ times the size of the finished work. Cotton broadcloth and drapery-weight cotton work best. Rayon and silk should be fused with a tricot interfacing before cutting. Linen may fray too much for easy sewing.
Small, sharp scissors (I prefer a curved edge for close trimming.)
Tons of pins! Optional heat-fusible web.
Optional foam board for design “wall”
Small trash bag
Materials Provided by Teacher:
Instructional guides for fabric choices, design and finishing options. Fabric scraps suitable for adding to students’ designs as needed.
