Stitch and Slash with  Brenda Schlecter

Indian Rocks Beach Art Center, Sunday, March 20 from 1-4. Cost is $35 total.

Brenda will demonstrate simple machine stitching, ripping, tearing, hand and machine stitching and couching will be used to create beautiful textured fabric art.  Supply list for the workshop ( Carol Ann Waugh’s technique) includes:

  • 4 fat quarters of fabric that coordinate in some way
  • thread
  • small sharp scissors
  • seam ripper
  • sewing machine in good working order
  • pins

If you plan to make a bag  you will need also need:

  • an extra fat quarter of one of your fabrics for the back.
  • Brenda suggests the piece you are using as your bottom layer as you will see the most of that piece but you can use any of your choices.  a piece of batting and a backing for front and back, if you plan to quilt them
  • a half yard of lining fabric.
  •  enough fabric and fat cording to make two straps to the size you desire.

More than likely we will just make the actual stitched and slashed piece.  Brenda will demonstrate how to finish the bag, including making a lining, and easy and hard ways to make straps, and how to make a bottom for your bag.
